after-agreement
What does settlement mean?
Settlement is the agreed completion step where the legal and financial requirements of the property sale are completed and ownership transfers as arranged.
The settlement date and requirements are set out in the sale and purchase agreement. Before that date, the parties and solicitors work through conditions, documents, funds and any practical requirements.
Your solicitor and, where relevant, lender or settlement professional will tell you what must be ready. FiSBO may provide a Deal Room for tracking, but it does not conduct the legal transfer or give settlement advice.
Keep communication clear and respond promptly to requests from your solicitor so avoidable delays are less likely.
